Trinity Crowns Four State Champions, Captures 3A Individual Team State Title

GREENSBORO, N.C. For the first time in more than a decade, Trinity High School has claimed the 3A Individual Team Championship at the NCHSAA State Wrestling Championships.

The Bulldogs finished with 156.5 points, pulling away from Mount Airy (104.5) to secure the individual team state title Polk County (73.5), Lincolnton (67) and Charles D. Owen (56.5) completed the top five.

The team title was built on production throughout the lineup, with four individual state champions, three additional finalists and three more placers contributing to the overall total.

Four Individual State Champions

At 113 pounds, junior Aiden Burkholder captured his second career state

championship. He advanced with a 16–0 technical fall in the quarterfinals, an 8–1 semifinal decision and a 12–3 major decision in the finals.

Junior Omega Edge won the 132-pound title, opening his tournament with a 16-second pin before earning decisions of 6–4 in the semifinals and 7–3 in the championship match.

Sophomore Hezekyah Matson claimed the 138-pound championship, recording a fall in the quarterfinals, a 7–5 semifinal decision and a fall in the finals.

At heavyweight, senior Joseph “JoJo” Trahan secured the 285-pound title. He reached the finals with back-to-back falls before defeating the defending state champion Maddox Carson 4–2, in the championship bout he was a perfect 62-0 for the season.

Additional Finalists and Placers

Sophomores Jeven Palmeri (106), Stephen Cross (120) and Simeon Hammett (144) each advanced to the finals and finished as State runners-up.

Senior Edgar Vasquez (126), senior Haris Idrees (165) and sophomore Grayson Carroll (190) each placed fourth.

Trinity also qualified Freshman Anees Khan and Senior Addam Bernal for the state tournament, adding to the program’s overall representation in Greensboro.

The individual team championship comes just days after Trinity won the 3A Dual Team State Championship, marking a postseason sweep and a significant milestone for a program that had not captured the individual team crown since 2012.
