TRINITY, N.C. Brandon Coggins reached a major career milestone earlier this season, earning the 200th dual win of his head coaching career during his 10th season leading the Trinity wrestling program.
The milestone came on December 11 with a dual victory over East Davidson. Coggins was recognized Friday night prior to Trinity’s home dual against Providence Grove, where fans, friends, and alumni were in attendance as the Bulldogs rolled to a 68–9 victory.

Since taking over the program, Coggins has compiled a 205–40 career dual record, with 26 of those losses coming during his first two seasons as the foundation of the program was being built. Trinity has since developed into one of the most consistent and successful wrestling programs in North Carolina.
Under Coggins’ leadership, the Bulldogs have produced 27 state placers, 10 state finalists, and five individual state champions. Team accomplishments include four conference championships, four regional titles, two state tournament runner-up finishes, and a Dual Team State Championship in 2024. Along the way, Coggins has also earned statewide recognition, including being named a 2024 North Carolina winner for the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholastic Coach of the Year for NC as well as NCHSAA 2A Coach of the Year acknowledgements that reflect the broader impact of his decade-long leadership at Trinity.
That championship season was historic, as Trinity completed a 38–0 undefeated run. This winter, the Bulldogs have again surged out of the gate, opening the season 21–0 and holding the No. 1 ranking in The NCHSAA 3A Classification.
Trinity’s success this season has been fueled by a deep and experienced lineup. The Bulldogs return state champion Aiden Burkholder, along with multiple returning placers, including two-time state placer JoJo Trahan, who remains undefeated this season. The lineup also features sophomore Stephen Cross, junior Omega Edge, and senior Edgar Vasquez, among many other key state placer contributors who have played important roles in the Bulldogs’ unbeaten run.

Additional contributors include state qualifier Hezekyah Matson and Jeven Pelmeri, who competed on junior varsity at 106 pounds last season behind state champion Aiden Burkholder and has since stepped into the varsity lineup. Pelmeri is currently ranked No. 1 in NCHSAA 3A at 107 pounds with a 40–2 record, further adding to Trinity’s unbeaten run.
After falling short in last season’s state semifinals, Trinity enters the postseason experienced, motivated, and positioned to contend once again for a dual team state championship with milestone wins continuing to stack up under Coggins’ leadership.
